Informale 360 aims to be an exploration of informal art, characterised by abstract and spontaneous painting, far from pre-established patterns. Each with their own personal path, the artists in the exhibition share an experimentation with colour and form as an innovative approach to art, as a personal expression of the psychological and emotional tensions of human beings.
The project revolves around some historical works by Hans Hartung and Georges Mathieu, pioneers of abstraction and experimenters with innovative, highly gestural techniques. Their compositions – lyrical in Hartung’s oeuvre and explosive in Mathieu’s – combine lines, scratches, smears and thick layers of paint into artworks with a strong emotional impact.
The exhibition is completed by works by other leading figures in post-war art, Italian artists, such as Carla Accardi and Emilio Vedova, and international artists, amongst others Hisao Domoto, Toshimitsu Imai, Paul Jenkins, Maurice Wyckaert, together with a selection of recent canvas by Katrin Fridriks, Yanyan Huang and Shozo Shimamoto. Although different in style, the artists presented in the show have focused their research on material, gestural and sign-based expressiveness.
Informale 360 highlights the similarities and differences between pictorial research on signs and materials, similar approaches but with multiple expressive results, with internationally renowned artists who have adopted the dissolution of form and the liberating power of materials to give life to a new pictorial language.
