Abstract Nature. Works on Paper

Dellupi Arte is delighted to present the exhibition Abstract Nature. Works on Paper, a dialogue among three abstract artists working on paper: Hans Hartung, Katrin Fridriks and Yanyan Huang.
The works on paper by Hans Hartung, the father of Lyrical Abstraction, have always been a feature of his oeuvre. This show opens with some refined works on baryta paper, executed by Hartung in the 1960s, intended as a re-reading of the master’s poetics through previously unseen works created by two female exponents of the contemporary scene, Katrin Fridriks (Reykjavik, 1974) and Yanyan Huang (Sichuan, 1988).
From different generations and nationalities, and with individual expressiveness, all three artists engage in the exploration of nature and the cosmos. The atmospheric, cosmic tensions Hartung tries to fix on the canvas have the same lyrical intensity as the harmonic, fluid compositions by Yanyan Huang, which render an atmosphere of suspense and waiting.

The “gesture” and the experimental technique underlies Katrin Fridriks’ poetics. Always interested in the interaction between human beings and the forces of nature, and in exploring natural phenomena, Fridriks creates immediate paintings, with a powerful emotive impact. In the series Bells are Ringing, conceived for this show, Fridriks combines a passion for calligraphy with the characteristic features of her art, consisting of explosions of brilliant colour, chromatic swirls, droplets and crystallized pigments.
